Intervening into the presidential race between Jimmy Carter and president Gerald Ford, Lyndon LaRouche used his creation of the Labor Party as a means of getting a half hour on national TV to talk about the strategic reality behind the fluff of party politics as presented on the nightly news. In June 2021, EIR reprinted the transcript of the broadcast with the title "Malthusian Genocide and Nuclear War Are Two Sides of the Same Coin." LaRouche's intervention led into the 1980 campaign when his chance meeting with Ronald Reagan at a candidate event led to LaRouche being tasked with negotiating with the Russians over the Strategic Defense Initiative.
